As research for my Loki-centric Avengers fanfic, I thought it'd be a good idea to learn some more of the original Norse myths so I could sneak references in and feel like a smart person. However, there weren't ANY books about Norse Mythology at school and, to my surprise, none at the public library either. I managed to get one (The Norse Myths by Kevin Crossley-Holland) brought in from another library in my county, but by the time it arrived my interest in the fanfic had dwindled. But despite this, I took it home. And I read it.
My lord. If it's possible for a dead religion to have a fandom, I am part of the Norse fandom now. I always though

I have no idea if this is a genuinely weird thing or if it's just me (all the writers I've ever asked have said it doesn't happen to them...or if it does, nowhere NEAR to the extent that it does to me). To expand, this is when I sit down to write with a vague idea of things that might happen, and then the characters (usually the main one, but not always) start doing things without my permission, basically. Things I had no idea about suddenly start popping up simply because the characters are like 'This would be cool' or 'BE SILENCED AND LISTEN TO ME'.
The strongest example of this is also the creepiest, because it's the first main character
